REPAIR/REPLACE
>Damaged floorboards repaired by inserting machine cut slivers of wood.
>Broken floorboards replaced with new floorboards. Wherever possible reclaimed or salvaged floorboards are used. Although, unfortunately in the time I have been doing this job the sources for good old wood have more or less dired up.
FLOORSANDING >Preparatory work includes removing carpet nails, sinking floornails, fixing squeaky floorboards, repairing minor defects.
>Floors sanded with dustfree floorsander and edgesander to a level finish.
>Corner details are sanded with a specialist belt sander.
>Gaps between floorboards cleaned.
HARDWAX OIL >The product used is Osmo Polyx-Oil, a hardwax-oil produced on a base of natural oils and waxes, available in satin and matt.
>In contrast to non-porous 'plastic films' present in traditional waterbased finishes or polyurethane coatings, this finish penetrates deeply into the wood and produces a microporous surface, which can breathe and has a pleasant, natural feel.
>Bare wooden floors can also be stained with Osmo's Wood Wax, which in itself protects the floor. A subsequent treatment with the Polyx-Oil follows the staining process. I usually bring along a box with various colour samples when on my site visits.
SOFTWOOD LYE/ NATURAL SOAP >A popular treatment of wooden floors in Scandinavia which leaves the floor in its most natural state, making it feel warm to the touch and light in appearance.
Especially softwoods can be made to look and feel like driftwood.
>Lye treatment prevents pine wood from yellowing - it lightens floorboards exposed to light.
>Liquid Natural Soap is used to protect the floor with every cleaning process.
